Hoop Dreams

Last weekend I luckily managed to pick up my second piece of art by Perth based graffiti artist Creepy. Nine Lives gallery in the Valley had an end of year exhibition called Small Fry, and luckily we needed to be in the area at that time. So we popped in, and I made a beeline to this piece that was the only Creepy in the exhibition and I had to have it. I am so glad we got there early, there was a lot of interest in the piece, and was stoked when another couple were grumbling that the price had a little sold sticker on it. This is my second piece by this artist, the first is called Anti Cloud.

Anti Cloud

// November 30th, 2009 // No Comments » // Brisbane, Design, Graffiti Street Art & Stencils, Perth

Today a piece of artwork I ordered at an exhibition by Creepy arrived, titled Anti Cloud. This is the first time I have bought a piece of art by an artist I have been following for some time, and whose work I think is fantastic. I discovered Creepy’s work a few years ago in Melbourne when I saw a mural on Hosier Lane [map], and I blogged about it here. After I moved to Perth I started seeing a lot of his work on walls around the city- he is a Perth native. He painted a large part of the Western Power mural, and has several murals on William Street in Northbridge, Perth, and many more around the city.

Creepy

Just before I left Perth I popped into an exhibition by Creepy at a little store called Distracted in Leedervile, just down the road from our house. I could have bought every piece in the exhibition, but could only afford one, and this is the one I selected. It’s a perfect souvenir of our time in Perth and I hopefully I will pick up some more works in the future- or commission a mural or tattoo maybe?

Magic pen writes in Helvetica

// December 4th, 2008 // No Comments » // Design

I love this- I got an email promoting that Helvetica the film is now on DVD (The Blu-Ray version would make a great Christmas present).

Ahhhh… technology. The geniuses at Plexifilm have spent the past two years developing a Sharpie pen that actually writes in Helvetica! This pen is so experimental that it’s priceless… literally. You can’t buy one, but you can get one free with any Helvetica-related purchase (DVD, T-shirt, etc.). Get your free pen while they last. It’s a great gift for that person in your life with sloppy handwriting…

* Warning: if you are John Downer or Marian Bantjes then the pen will actually write in Helvetica. Otherwise, your results may vary. Do not swallow. Keep away from open flame and co-workers. May cause drowsiness.

I love the colour, and the way that they blend as they fall.

Dr Zeus Arranged by Colour

I am working on a chromatically arranged bookshelf, which is growing slowly. But I like this version that is more manageable.

Get the Pride & Pred look

I am a Pride & Pred nut! I have seen the DVD hundreds of times, and even managed to overheat a DVD player trying to watch all 8 hours in one sitting (it was raining outside).

Surroundings Magazine have done a few articles on how to decorate your home like the elegant properties featured in the series. Each article has links to stores where you get pieces of period replica furniture, and many stills from the series.

CD Cover Meme

// February 11th, 2008 // No Comments » // Design, Fun Stuff

I saw this post on ozoux.com (a very eclectic blog) and decided to have a go at creating a completely random fake CD cover, I kinda rushed it, I think I will try again when I have a bit more time.

The way it works is:

  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
    The first article title on the page is the name of your band.
  2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
    The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.
  3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
    The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

I got Father of the Pride as my band name, an animated TV that series revolves around a family of white lions, the patriarch of which stars in a Siegfried and Roy show in Las Vegas. The show was unsuccessful despite heavy promotion. Transmission and production were also delayed by the real-life on-stage mauling of Roy Horn.

My album title ‘shadowy future, without fear’ is from a quote Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, an American Poet [wiki]

And finally- my artwork image is a corker.

Check out some other examples in the CD Cover Meme group on flickr
