79th Annual Academy Awards Poster

The poster for next years Academy Awards is out. The gleaming Oscar is backed by famous movie quotes including “I wish I knew how to quit you”, ET phone home”, Give ‘em the old razzle dazzle” and “What we’ve got here is failure to communicate”.

The typographic design is brilliant, and the three column layout works really well, with some quotes crossing columns, and the fonts used are carefully matched to the phrase they are portraying. Each quote has been painstakingly sized to carefully fill the poster, and the gentle black fade-off at the bottom highlights the title. Well done to the Los Angeles ad agency TBWA-Chiat-Day for this clean and simple layout, and Photographer Albert Watson shot the Oscar statuette.

The academy plans to send out the posters to the surviving writers of the lines.

Blisteringly fast

I have made the leap and bought a new computer. My new Power Mac and is probably the fastest commercially available computer on the market. I have also fully pimped it out with two 3.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors, 2Gb of memory (I will get more down the track, and the memory can expand her up to 16Gb), two 500Gb hard drives, and to finish it all off I have also bought a 24″ Dell wide screen monitor to view all the great graphics I plan to produce.
The whole bundle was pretty pricey, in fact i could have bought a motorbike, or another car. It takes two weeks to build and deliver- so stay tuned, I will post some unboxing pics soon.

Little Precious

Last night Mark and I went to Adam’s photographic exhibition called Little Precious. It was great to see Adams pics, he is a really talented photographer, and I look forward to seeing more of his work. There was a controversial picture of Dales bum, which has even been featured in Queensland Pride Magazine. No one was supposed to work out that the arse belonged to Dale, but Dale was so proud of it he made sure everyone knew that it belonged to him, and was even fishing for positive comments from anyone who did not know.
