Anti Cloud

// November 30th, 2009 // No Comments » // Brisbane, Design, Graffiti Street Art & Stencils, Perth

Today a piece of artwork I ordered at an exhibition by Creepy arrived, titled Anti Cloud. This is the first time I have bought a piece of art by an artist I have been following for some time, and whose work I think is fantastic. I discovered Creepy’s work a few years ago in Melbourne when I saw a mural on Hosier Lane [map], and I blogged about it here. After I moved to Perth I started seeing a lot of his work on walls around the city- he is a Perth native. He painted a large part of the Western Power mural, and has several murals on William Street in Northbridge, Perth, and many more around the city.

Creepy

Just before I left Perth I popped into an exhibition by Creepy at a little store called Distracted in Leedervile, just down the road from our house. I could have bought every piece in the exhibition, but could only afford one, and this is the one I selected. It’s a perfect souvenir of our time in Perth and I hopefully I will pick up some more works in the future- or commission a mural or tattoo maybe?

Perth Street Art

// May 13th, 2009 // 3 Comments » // Graffiti Street Art & Stencils

After work tonight I went along to a Human Rights consultation on the other side of town. I live just north of Perth, and work in West Perth, so I am very seldom in the actual city, so I took my camera to work, and dawdled along to the Duxton hotel, stopping to photograph anything interesting o the way. I was a bit lazy and had the lensbaby lens on, and did not change it because my camera bag is a bit of a mess, so all the pics below have fuzzy edges. I did come across a new graffiti artist I have not seen before (the first 3 pics below). If you have any info on who this is, and where some other pieces are around the city please post a comment. I love whimsical the Dr Zeuss style of his work! If you want to find these yourself, the images are all linked to my Flickr, and they are geotagged so you can easily find the works.

Creepy – Western Power Mural

// March 21st, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Graffiti Street Art & Stencils

Mark called me on his way home, “You know that graffiti artist you like, there is this huge mural by him in Northbridge”.

That evening we cycled down to Northbridge to have a look. On the corner of Roe and Milligan Streets [Google Map] is the Western Power owned building, covered with works by thirteen of WA’s best known urban artists, including Creepy, and all four sides of this prominent building are covered with the works.

I have been a fan of Creepy since I discovered one of his murals on Hosier Lane [Google Map] in Melbourne (I have blogged this before), his work can be found on the streets of London, New York, Barcelona, Berlin and more. His works have strong themes of good vs. evil, life, death and the environment.

Update: Here is a stop-motion video of the mural being created over 6 days (Via http://creepy.headtank.com/blog/2009/03/22/6-days-and-a-death-ladder/):

Sydney Street Art

On my last trip to Sydney for Australia Day, Alicia gave us a neat tour of street art in the Newtown area, it was a real treasure trove, the only bad thing was my battery on my camera dies and I could only capture about half of it. Have a look at the slideshow below or for high-res versions look at the set on Flickr here.
