Crateman in Melbourne

// November 15th, 2007 // No Comments » // Graffiti Street Art & Stencils

After reading about this guy on sites like Wooster I was determined to find one of these pixel looking men made of milk crates while I was in Melbourne. I read on a few blogs that vaguely described where they were, and it seems that most are best viewed from trains, but I had no need to catch any trains so I looked on foot. I read that there was on on a carpark in downtown Melbourne near Federation Square, and after hunting and hunting I could not spot him, and then WhOA… I spotted this guy just over the Batman Bridge, and I managed to get a few pics of him before darkness settled.

Free Burma Stencil

free burma

I just watched a Four Corners doco on the situation in Burma, and I had no idea of the horrors the people of this country have to endure, and how their government does not care about them and sees them as a nuisance that needs to be exterminated. There was this one couple who heard the military coming to their village and they ran into the jungle, the father who and upon returning to the charred remains of his home which was burns by the military found the remains of one of his sons, he could not stop crying. Or another woman whose brother was shot while he was escaping carring his 80 year old mother, they killed them both.

Do we purposely avoid finding more about what is going on in places like this because we we know that it could upset us? Why did we invade Iraq, and why not spend all that money on helping a nation like Burma?

I came across these Free Burma Stencils

Rich Writes:”I’ve created a source for stencil images of marching monks to support the ‘Saffron Revolution’ in Burma, at the suggestion of a friend who has been living on the Thai-Burma border with student rebels for many years. I made it simple so it’s easy to use.”

m+i farewell

Mikey called last night as I was about to leave for the gym and asked if I was feeling creative. I was looking for an excuse to not go to the gym (it also just started raining). And this is what I came up with. The vase graphics I used were created by Ben from Ben Blogged, which I found on Vecteezy. The font for the farewell text is called Cocaine Sans, and the front i use for the ‘design by Ross’ is called BTSE. I did the whole design in illustrator- and it’s completely vector. The ‘click here for a map’ button links to Google Maps, the link was embedded in the final PDF.

I have just joined a new gym over the river in The Valley, which is a real hub of street art, and while walking to the gym I have found a few great pieces.

Space Girl and Bird

Space Girl and Bird

A painting by elusive UK artist Banksy has fetched £288,000 ($AU693,000) at auction, 20 times more than the estimated amount. Banksy’s Space Girl and Bird, a spray paint work on steel, was originally commissioned by the pop band Blur. In contrast to the artist’s “underground” roots, spray-painting street walls and curbs, Banksy has become a darling of the international auction circuit, featuring alongside the likes of Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol.
